Job Purpose. This is a 12mth contract working within the site and the NPI & PT team to develop a culture of accountability, empowerment, continuous improvement, customer focus, collaboration, involvement and development of oneself within the Site. Driving continuous improvement. Support communication and material flow between the NPI & PT team and all other teams on site. Provide support to the NPI & PT Director. Scope of Responsibility. Ensuring team performance standards and metrics are achieved and reported. Ensuring department attendance is maintained. Monitoring and taking action on absenteeism issues. Addressing and resolving team grievances in line with HR policies and procedures. Assisting the leadership and motivation of a team of multi- disciplined graduate technologists. Training and coaching of junior staff to ensure appropriate skills available to deliver compliant projects to required business timescales. Working with other technical staff to define technical capability action plans to improve site performance. Key deliverables from the role include: Validation of supply base changes, principally those associated with packaging materials, and device components. Evaluation and validation of new packaging technologies for products post market launch. Capability improvement of existing processes. Excellence in technical troubleshooting support to the site manufacturing operations. Resolution of day to day technical issues. Packaging component supply continuity. Site impact assessments for packaging. Analyse multiple sources of data to define appropriate action plans that continually enhance technical process capability of the site’s packaging specifications and packaging manufacturing processes within the site. Operate in a complex matrix, aligned to extended site technical teams, routinely working with the NPI & PT Director and other site leadership team members. The Packaging owner must act as a single point of contact for the site. Activities to be managed by self or manage the coordination/input of other functions include: Project Leader. To lead cross-functional teams either for a small individual project or a sub-project which have a primary concern to packaging at the site. To have a direct line report to the NPI & PT Director and provide regular updates on all matters regarding packaging at the site. Responsible for formal project initiation where project has a primary concern to packaging at the site and ensure project benefit established at point of project initiation. To identify and provide appropriate advice on any requirements in projects that impinge on product quality, safety, service and operational cost through completion of preliminary project risk assessment. To establish and manage a team of appropriate skills such that the project itself is properly resourced and efficiently executed. To liaise effectively with other members of the project team. Ensure that all project team members are kept fully informed of current GMP/EHS/Technical standards and business issues. To ensure that each project is provided with an agreed time plan and to monitor progress against this plan with regular, agreed updates to the customer and project team members. To ensure that all issues relating to the project are clearly communicated within the project team and between the project team and customer/external support functions. In the event of possible failure to achieve the agreed project scope in terms of performance, cost or completion time, contingency plans should be developed for those projects which are of strategic importance to the business. To formally review the project on completion to determine achievement of key project deliverables. Troubleshooting. To act as a point contact and provide an effective troubleshooting service with respect to packaging component and manufacturing processes at site. Keep all involved teams appraised of troubleshooter’s role. The conclusions and recommendations from a troubleshooting investigation must be reported in written format to the department and any other affected groups and where appropriate follow the site’s CAPA process requirements. Actions resulting from the investigation must be managed through to completion. Contacts developed with the internal and external groups that are the potential cause or solution of troubleshooting problems. These groups must be informed of all relevant issues, problems and remedial actions. Projects initiated to identify and resolve the root cause of troubleshooting problems with respect to packaging that either frequently recur or represent a significant business threat or constraint to a product stream at site. Manage and/or design functional tests to qualify packaging platforms and/or identify defects to remove them from the supply chain based on Internal /external standards and requirements. Requirements: • BEng/BSc qualification in an Engineering/Science/Packaging Material Science Discipline or demonstrable equivalent. • Significant experience of pharmaceutical or similar range of Packaging formats applicable to FMCG or Pharmaceuticals/Medical Devices/Healthcare produced in a GMP environment where experience of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components and processes was gained. • Considerable technical experience within the area of pharmaceutical and/or consumer healthcare secondary production and manufacture. This would probably be obtained from several years work experience within a relevant industrial environment. • Demonstrated delivery of significant packaging change projects.
